When Ron Johnson joined Apple in 2000, he was tasked with developing the brand’s physical stores. Apple Stores eventually grew into retail giants, but at the time they were a risky bet, as conventional wisdom predicted online shopping would replace in-person stores.

Johnson’s new book, “Shop Different,” details the strategy behind the stores and offers a broad look at Johnson’s retail career.
